Natural Detergents and Natural detergents made with organic materials standards
Introduced in 2006, the cleaning products standard was created in conjunction with all stakeholders in the value chain, i.e. suppliers, manufacturers, distributors.
The aim is to define a high level of requirements, by promoting the use of natural ingredients. The standard also guarantees that producers implement environmentally friendly practices throughout the production line. ECOCERT certifies today more than 1200 products through 150 committed companies. Since November the 1st 2012, ECOCERT proposes a new version of this standard with two levels of certification: Natural Detergents and Natural Detergents made with Organic.
1. The basic principles of the standard
TO PROTECT our planet and its resources.
TO INFORM the consumer.
TO REDUCE unnecessary waste and discharges.
2. Two levels of certification to promote the approach of manufacturers and brand owners
For Natural Detergents level
Valuation of all ingredients from natural origin
Maximum 5% of synthetic ingredients among restrictive list of the I.A.1 annex
No required organic minimum
No environnemental risky statement is authorized on the final product.
For Natural Detergents made with Organic level
Minimum 95% of ingredients from natural origin
Minimum 10% of ingredients from Organic Farming
No risky statement at all is authorized on the final product.
3. Inform the consumer
Certified detergents manufacturers and brand owners have to reach a higher level of transparency than those required by the european regulation: exact percentage of ingredients from natural origin and from organic farming, these ingredients must be clearly identified by an exhaustive list of categories. (anionic surfactant, water, salt, etc.), use precautions for respect of environnement.
4. Annual or semestrial audit on manufacturers or brand owners sites
Thanks to the audit realized by our auditor on conditioning and manufacturing facilities, ECOCERT Greenlife make sure that all standard criterias are respected. Production processes are as important as product content. ECOCERT requires through its standard, an effective quality system, allowing ECOCERT to follow the product throughout the production line until the ingredients origin.
Audited company whose products are certified must develop an environmental management system in order to decrease water and energy consumption and improve the discharge and waste management.
